Value : Self-Respect

"To transform the ordinary into something special is to be truly fortunate."

Contemplation

Fortune is usually perceived as having a chance to be in a special place or to do special things.  Life reveals that we cannot always be in such a position nor do we always get the chance to do special things.  At such times we may consider ourselves less fortunate.

Application

When I respect myself and acknowledge the strengths and talents that make me unique, I connect with my inner self.  I realize I have the power within me to make everything I do - even the most ordinary act - special.  Then I become truly fortunate.

Day 30 Value of Giving

Value : Giving

"To consider oneself to be big is to have a generous heart."

Contemplation

When we consider ourselves 'big', we usually expect the same from others.  We want them to give us respect and obey us.  But we do not always find others listening to us or obeying us.  This leads to disappointment and the urge to use our authority in a more forceful way.

Application

To be big means being a giver.  If I am big, I need to understand that there are others less fortunate than myself, and I need to use what I have been given to help them.  This attitude will help me attract others' good wishes, which in turn will help me progress.

Day 29 Value of Using our gifts

"To be special is to bring love and beauty to every word and every act."

Contemplation

Sometimes we hold back, waiting for the right situation to use our gifts.  But there are often times when we could have done more.  Each of us has the power to turn ordinary moments into memorable ones.

Application

When I am aware of my gifts in a conscious way, I can make everything I say or do meaningful and powerful.  Nothing is wasted, or even ordinary; everything I do becomes special.  I am not caught up with the ordinariness or the negativity or a situation, but am able to enjoy the moment by making it my own.

Day 28 Value of Honesty

Value : Honesty

"Honesty brings progress."

Contemplation

Honesty is usually associated with telling the truth or being open with others.  We often find it easier to be honest with others than with ourselves.  It can be difficult to admit our weaknesses, even to ourselves.  But in order to progress, we need to be brave enough to face the truth.

Application

More than anything else I need to be honest with myself.  That means reflecting upon my thoughts, words and behavior.  If I start making excuses for myself, I am not being truly honest.  When I become aware of my weaknesses, I will be able to address them and move forward.

Day 27 Value of Truth

"The power of truth will enable you to learn from your mistakes."

Contemplation

The power of truth within equips us to learn from all situations.  When things go wrong we are able to reflect on how to learn from mistakes rather than making excuses to others and ourselves.  Making excuses means hiding from the truth and stops us from learning and progressing.

Application

Thinking about something that went wrong today, I need to ask myself about my part in the situation.  When I understand this, I will know how to correct myself in the future.

Day 26 Value of Enthusiasm

Value : Enthusiasm

"To be enthusiastic is to be free."

Contemplation

When everything is going well, it's easy to be enthusiastic and interested in moving forward.  But when even a little thing goes wrong, we tend to lose all enthusiasm to do anything.  This makes us feel tied down and then it becomes difficult or even impossible to put in enough effort to move forward.

Application

A caged bird has the ability to fly, but is unable to spread its wings and soar.  I need to remind myself that being enthusiastic in all situations is like being a free bird reaching great heights.  When I can experience this inner freedom and appreciate the joy it brings, I will be able to sustain it even when things go wrong.

Day 25 Value of Serving Others

Value : Serving Others

"The will to serve others creates opportunity."

Contemplation

We often want to help others or serve them in some way, but find that the right opportunity never arrives.  At other times, we find the opportunity given to us isn't the one we wanted - it doesn't match our desires.

Application

I need to be constantly thinking about how I can help others.  I won't wait for better situations or opportunities to come up.  Instead I will help others whenever I can.  Providing help in little ways will give me the opportunity to serve in bigger ways.
